Sarah Murphy

Sarah Murphy, 21, Biathlon

Introduction

Sarah is a Caniwi – half Canadian, half Kiwi - and has declared she loves shooting. Biathlon is the only sport that is both static (shooting) and dynamic (cross country skiing) and if Sarah is selected she’ll be the world’s first biathlete to wear the silver fern at an Olympic Games. She is inspired by people who work hard for what they achieve and sees hard work, determination and passion as being critical to her success. She’s travelled alone through Russia with only sign language to communicate Sarah first competed for New Zealand in 2008 and is based in Wanaka at the Snow Farm.

Sarah says “I have worked so hard to race for New Zealand and to start a new sport in the country. I will be so proud to wear the silver fern…”
